工研院晶片式交流電發光二極體照明技術( On-Chip AC LED Lighting Technology)獲選為2008全球百大最創新技術之一，與英代爾(Intel)、杜邦(Dupont)、美國阿岡實驗室(Argonne National Laboratory)、美國太空總署(NASA)等知名機構齊獲此一殊榮。

台灣國家級科技研究機構--工研院榮獲全球科技研發大獎R&D 100 Awards，於今（16）日在芝加哥領獎！工研院晶片式交流電發光二極體照明技術( On-Chip AC LED Lighting Technology)獲選為2008全球百大最創新技術之一，與英代爾(Intel)、杜邦(Dupont)、美國阿岡實驗室(Argonne National Laboratory)、美國太空總署(NASA)等知名機構齊獲此一殊榮。On Chip AC LED以創新晶片式交流電操作，加上立體插拔式(hot swapping)散熱的研發創意，在來自世界的創新技術激烈角逐中，被評選為今年度全球100項最具創新能力的科技之一。

R&D 100 Award素有「產業創新奧斯卡獎(The Oscars of Invention- The Chicago Tribune」之美名，今年獎項由20位來自全美學界與科技界精英擔任評審，此獎項之獲獎單位以歐美企業或實驗室居多，亞洲的技術獲獎一向難得，今年全球百大創新科技，亞洲得獎者僅有台灣工研院及日本koito和 Toyota Motor等機構。

大會主席Tim Studt(R&D 100 Award Chairman)表示，晶片型交流電發光二極體照明技術創造了一個前所未有的市場新機會，並將會為未來的世界帶來顯著的改變及進步。他以「顯著的技術成果」來形容此項技術，並指出，R&D 100的評審均為來自各行各業的專家，其中的電子專家一致認為這項技術具有「顯著的科技成果及進展」值得獲頒前100項最具創新的科技。

代表受獎的工研院電光所徐紹中副所長表示，晶片型交流電發光二極體照明技術(On Chip AC LED Lighting Technology )是工研院對未來照明的創新研發，採用交流電直接驅動LED晶片發光，不需整流變壓器，較傳統LED節省15~30%電力，搭配立體導熱、可插拔封裝技術，體積小等特性，較容易進行多變化的照明設計，相信這項技術將會在5年內成為未來極具潛力的照明技術。徐紹中副所長進一步表示，自獲得R&D 100Award消息發布後，國際照明大廠也紛紛關注此一技術。

工研院晶片型交流電發光二極體照明技術(On Chip AC LED Lighting Technology ) 以簡單的「直接用交流電驅動」觀念作研發設計，取代傳統LED的直流電驅動晶片發光，以交流電驅動晶片上微晶粒(micro-diode)，不用整流變壓器，大幅縮小 LED 的體積和重量，與傳統照明相容，應用更彈性，系統壽命更長。同時也應用可插拔式立體封裝，突破LED封裝限制，加大熱傳導接觸面積，LED元件與散熱系統間之介面熱阻係數可達0.3℃/W以下。此外，因有簡易更換的特點，在燈具及顯示器的外觀設計上可提供極大發揮空間，目前已應用在閱讀燈及顯示器背光模組上，AC LED提昇LED光源使用便利性，為LED的照明應用帶來更寬廣的空間！

工研院除了研發上的突破外，晶片型交流電發光二極體(On-Chip AC LED)照明技術在專利佈局上，亦已掌握關鍵高價值專利；從AC LED元件結構、晶片、封裝與應用端，完成全球AC LED先期的整體專利佈局。2008年10月3日工研院更整合台灣光寶、晶電等19家上中下游國內廠商，共同組成AC LED應用研發聯盟，發展AC LED應用產品，快速推動AC LED照明市場新發展。

R&D 100 Award由美國著名科技雜誌R&D在1963創設，是國際科技研發領域極為推崇的科技研發獎。每年從全球上千件創新技術中，依其顯著科技突破性、創新獨特性及應用實用性三個項目進行評比，挑選全球100項年度具重大創新意義的商品化技術。歷年獲獎單位包括飛思卡爾(Freescale)、美國阿岡國家實驗室、橡樹嶺國家實驗室(Oak Ridge National Laboratory)、洛斯阿拉莫斯國家實驗室(Los Alamos National Laboratory)、美國太空總署(NASA)等。
